PLH now offers Bright Futures Personal Empowerment training. This is an eight-session program designed to empower women to live up to their fullest potential by teaching them how to “vision big,” set personal goals, and overcome the obstacles that are preventing them from reaching those goals. The women also receive financial literacy training through our partnership with PWC and community college scholarships through our partnerships with Richland Community College and State Farm. The Bright Futures curriculum is written by Founder Caren Bright based on her personal journey from poverty to a Bright Future.
In the last year and a half, 18 women have completed the Bright Futures Personal Empowerment training. A recent survey of eleven of those women revealed that five did not have a job before taking the course, the others made an average of only $8/hour, and none had any college education.
After taking the course, ten of the women attended community college to become certified in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Now they all work as preschool teachers at PLH making $15/hour, and they have access to free childcare and free PLH programs. All the women plan to pursue a Bachelor of Education, and all but one wants to specialize in ECE. Most excitingly, 100% of the women reported feeling more joy and fulfillment in their lives than they did before taking the course.
